You will soon have an opportunity to choose a new mayor for State College Borough.
My experiences as a member of Borough Council for fourteen years, including two years as council president, as well as being a neighborhood advocate and community volunteer have prepared me for a new role in State College government.
Public service has been a great joy for me, confirming what I knew all along; local government is important and essential for building communities, helping us share in common causes, transcending our differences, for a better life for all of us.
As a resident of 35 years and past president of College Heights Association and former member of the Coalition of State College Neighborhood Associations, I appreciate the efforts of residents who advocate for the preservation of our neighborhoods, neighborhood schools and the historic fabric of our community. We need to protect the quality of life we value.
My involvement, first as a volunteer and now as council representative to the board of the Downtown Improvement District, has provided me with valuable insights into the efforts of talented business leaders to enhance our downtown. A vibrant downtown is an asset to the community and provides an urban core to the entire Centre Region.
My commitment to shaping a promising future for State College includes good strategic decisions shared in partnership with Penn State and local businesses. We need to also continue our advocacy efforts with our representatives in Harrisburg to find additional revenue enhancing alternatives for local government.
In these challenging times, we must not forget the importance of remaining a welcoming safe community. As your mayor, I pledge to promote civility, transparency, equity and inclusion in all aspects of our civic life.
The May 16th primary will be here soon. Your $25 contribution now will be an important step in reaching voters. Checks made payable to Catherine Dauler for Mayor may be sent to Donald Hopkins, Treasurer, at 523 N. Allen Street, State College, PA 16803.
Thank you so much for your support.
